My Story and Services

Thirty years of working in finance has taught me many things.

I’ve learnt that clients are empowered when they truly understand the financial issues they face. That means my role is part educator and part technician; and I embrace both facets.

I’ve found communication is most effective when it is correctly positioned for the intended audience – not over-simplified and not over-complicated. Achieving that balance isn’t always easy. It’s built on my deep knowledge of technical detail and my thorough understanding of my clients’ needs. I’m able to sift through the daily noise of investment markets, understand the issues that actually matter, explain them to clients and then take action to ensure they’re appropriately positioned.

Another crucial lesson I’ve learnt is that you need to have confidence in those you collaborate with. I work in a team with my colleagues Patrick Regan and Charlie Cropper. We each bring a unique combination of skills but we all share the same passion for doing the right thing by our clients.

Equally important was our decision, as a team, to partner with Morgan Stanley. Our insight and experience is complemented by the resources of an incredible organisation. I like that my clients know I’m able to bring them ideas and opportunities from across the globe.

Finally, I’ve learnt that building relationships is the most rewarding part of my role and I love meeting people I feel I can help. If you would like to discuss your financial needs and objectives, I’d love to start a conversation.

Working With You

At the core of Bernie’s professionalism is her strong commitment to integrity.

“At the broadest level, our whole industry is based on trust. The whole system collapses if there is a lack of trust in what we’re doing.”

Experience

Bernie has experienced many market cycles in Australia and globally. In her roles at Westpac, she managed major relationships with semi-government authorities, superannuation and insurance funds. In 1991, she moved to Westpac London where she worked with institutions dealing in Australian and New Zealand Fixed Income Assets.

Joining Deutsche Bank in London in 1994, Bernie was charged with developing the institutional advice business for emerging markets debt and for investors in the Latin American and Eastern European debt markets.

Coming back to Australia in 2000, she worked in product and strategy for the high net worth and not for profit segments (Westpac) before returning to her first love of dealing with clients and markets, working at UBS as a specialist adviser for families and not for profit organisations. She was with UBS Wealth Management for 10 years until joining Morgan Stanley in 2015.
