Our Story and Services

The team was recognised on Barron’s list of Australia’s top advisers in 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024.

The team of Bernadette Connolly, Patrick Regan and Charlie Cropper work together under the shared motto of ‘Integrity, Transparency and Teamwork’. Underlying those three qualities, however, is a common thread of discipline, cool-headedness and consistency that resonates with a solidity well-suited to the sometimes treacherous waters of financial markets.

According to Bernie, who has navigated the hectic European trading floor amid Russian coups and other international turmoil, the team’s ability to thrive in high pressure or unpredictable situations is a key component of their unified strength.

“You need to steer a steady course, even when you’re in the fog. Doing that as part of a team is like having three sets of eyes on the road ahead, rather than one. Not to mention three minds that are well-practised at navigating the road together, each as a core part of the whole.”

The team has a shared goal to be nationally recognised as the industry experts in not-for-profit (NFP) investing. They are already well on their way, with an expanding strong client base driven solely by referrals and a word-of-mouth reputation for excellence.

Each team member brings a unique background, with differing areas of financial specialisation. Patrick has a history in equities and also trading; while Charlie has experience in operations and trade execution. Bernie has a long history in fixed income.

Charlie said it’s a vast range of experience and insight that has been honed to fit the unique requirements of NFP clients, giving the three professionals a laser-like focus on their niche.

“NFPs are what we know. We know how they should invest, and how they shouldn’t invest. We know the ins and outs, the pitfalls and the opportunities. It’s a whole different universe of investing and it’s a particular financial terrain that we know by heart, and are professionally well-equipped to navigate on behalf of our clients.”
Regrettably, we are aware that Morgan Stanley financial advisers have been impersonated in attempts to deceive consumers and promote fraudulent investment schemes. If you have any concerns regarding a communication you have received, please contact Morgan Stanley.

You can confirm the qualifications of our financial advisers at ASIC's financial advisers register.

Working With You

Bernie, Patrick and Charlie offer stability, liquidity and education across every aspect of not-for-profit investing. They also know the importance of governance when it comes to investment policies and risk mitigation, and they are committed to ensuring that the organisations they work with are compliant with their own policies and also the applicable government policies and legislation. Forming the basis of all they do, however, is a commitment to transparency and integrity.

In the words of Patrick: “At the broadest level, our whole industry is based on trust. The importance of reputation goes without saying. The whole system collapses if there is a lack of trust in what we’re doing.”

Meet Bernie, Patrick And Charlie

About Me

Bernie Connolly loves to build things: houses; investment portfolios; client relationships.

She is also fond of knocking down walls, either as part of a renovation, or through the act of communicating complex messages to a boardroom of diverse clients.

“I’m a serial renovator and I love building houses. It started as knowing I could create something - and create value.”

Bernie has three decades of experience in the finance industry. The highly competitive Australian market, with its strong focus on technical competency, was her learning ground. From there she followed an opportunity based in London, where she worked in Fixed Income and Emerging Markets for close to 10 years. Her time in Europe exposed her to the real meaning of risk, in an environment that could be intensely shaken by world events, such as a Russian coup attempt and a series of Latin American debt crises.

“Thanks to this breadth of experience across international and domestic sectors I’ve become comfortable with uncertainty, because it’s part of the job,” Bernie said. “I understand the importance of steering a steady course, even when you’re surrounded by fog.”

Bernie brings a cool head and seasoned judgement to a solid foundation of experience across all asset classes, including foreign exchange, money market, fixed income, derivatives and equities.

She holds a Bachelor of Business degree (University of Technology Sydney) and a Master of Applied Finance (Macquarie University) and lectured extensively in Europe on the topic of emerging market debt and derivatives.

About Me

Investors who seek the principled virtue of Atticus Finch paired with the global sophistication that comes from a lifetime of intellectual curiosity may find what they’re looking for in Patrick Regan.

Citing ‘To Kill A Mockingbird’ as one of his favourite novels, Patrick aspires to the qualities Finch embodies, albeit accompanied by a healthy dose of humility.

“He was a great character and I’d like to think I encompass some of those qualities. Things like moral fortitude, integrity and transparency are central to a successful career in finance.”

One of Patrick’s key interests is human behaviour and he completed a Harvard course on The Psychology of Trading in 2006. His academic understanding builds on two decades of experience as a broker, trader and investment manager in Australian, European and US financial markets. On the trading floors of Wall Street, in particular, he observed and learned from the interplay of investing and human psychology.

Outside of his professional life, Patrick has found insight and knowledge in many corners of the globe, from St Petersberg to the Arctic Circle.

He currently works as a trusted adviser to non-profit organisations, research foundations, family offices, and high net worth individuals.

Patrick holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of NSW, an MBA (Trading Systems) from Trinity College in Dublin and a Masters in Education (The Psychology of Trading) from Harvard University.

About Me

By working for clients in the not-for-profit (NFP) sector, Charlie Cropper combines financial acumen with a sense of greater purpose. He also challenges long-held stereotypes about what motivates people to join the finance industry.

“It’s important to be able to sleep at night, and know you are doing something good for the community. I wouldn’t do this job if I wasn’t working for NFPs.”

Charlie first became interested in a finance career while studying Commerce at the University of Adelaide. After completing his degree, with a specialisation in Corporate Finance and Economics, he started out at UBS as a Fixed Income Specialist and Associate, before joining Morgan Stanley as an Associate in 2015. In early 2018 the Firm promoted him to the role of Vice President.

Integrity is the bedrock that Charlie has built his career on.

“For me, integrity will always be paramount. Our integrity, as a team and individually, has allowed us to build a strong reputation based on trust and always doing the right thing for clients.”
